Introduction

Most of the health care globally has adopted the use of the national database of nursing quality indicators in their systems. The database is used as a method of measuring the nursing quality within the hospital through some quality indicators within its system to measure the performance of the staffs. It provides the health care with the nursing quality measurement program which gives the hospital a unit level with an adequate comparison reports to the state, the nationals’ and regional percentile distribution (Kelley & Hurst, 2013). Therefore, in this paper will major on the quality indicators for the performance of nursing based on the NDNQI.

Quality indicators are the standardized and evidence based measures of the health care quality that can be applied with a readily available hospital inpatient administrative with the purpose of measuring and tracking the clinical performance and results. They are important in the nursing care organization since they can be used to monitor problems that might be in the health care that needs the solution. Moreover, in the recent past, a team of researchers coined together to come up with the aim of finding out the elements of patients care that is being affected by the nursing practice, and It has become used to the most hospital today in the evaluation process.

Various indicators can be used in tracking the nursing care quality. The structural indicators that involve the distribution of the nursing staff, the level of their skills based on the field and also the education and certification level of the nurses. Secondly, we have the process indicators that are served with the measure of the patient assessment, the intervention of nurses and perhaps the nursing job satisfaction in the health care. The third indicator is the outcome which reflects on the patients’ outcome because they depend on the quality or perhaps the quantity of the nursing care (Kelley & Hurst, 2013). They include things like the pressure ulcers and falls, cardiac failure and the hospital readmission rates taking place in the health care. They also include situation like the total time the nurses can spend per day with one patient.

The outcome indicator

This is based on the reflection on the patient’s outcome from the health care perhaps after the treatment or receiving the services. It depends majorly on the quality of the health provider to the patients. The data information that is being collected here is about the patient’s satisfaction data that can be obtained through the direct interview with the patients or the general overseer of the nurses (Kelley & Hurst, 2013). The data that is tallied here is the outcome based on the number of patients coming back for readmission and also the number of deaths especially from the careless ones that could be avoided by the effective performance by ensuring that the nurses have the right skills that satisfy the job criteria. The perception of the people around on the level of the providence of the health care could be data information that can be collected and then verified.

Monitoring quality indicators in the hospitals involve the placement of several tools such as the quality management team to ensure that quality of services is maintained. The patient’s benefits through a quality of services based on the right medication, a proper attention from the nurses, an appropriate follow-up systems when discharged from the nurses to find out the recovery process, time factor for services and also a clean environment (Secretary of State for Health, 2014). The nursing practice can attain extensive skills based on the quality of service in whatever field they take. It has allowed the nurses to come up with a nursing plan to ensure that order in the service to the people is maintained and ethical concerns are taken care of to ensure that the right standard of quality is attained. The organization benefits from this through a goodwill mechanism because as the quality improves people will come more and more for the services and the grading of the organization will improve as compared to where the monitoring is done. The health care systems like the pharmacy, radiology, and others in the hospital could now attain the right equipment and enough drugs to ensure that quality is done. In these systems, there will be a steady supply of medication and constant replacement of machines to modernize the entire system for quality purposes.

Quality is perhaps delivering the most advanced medical knowledge and practices that can save the patients and also treat them with empathy, concern, and respect (Secretary of State for Health, 2014). Monitoring the quality indicators will ensure that quality is maintained in the health care. Since most people are attracted to the quality of work and especially in the case where health is concerned, they will tend to go to the places where they can get the right medication and put their trust in the services. Therefore, they will be in a position to pay for whatever amount they are told to pay for the services. Therefore, good quality will attract good funds for the organization and other financial aids from the donors and government will increase.

Most of the health care lacks proper documentation systems within and outside the premises. However, in some cases, there could be some documentation, but compliance to the same is perhaps very poor and therefore the absence of reliable information for analysis when needed. Therefore, it will be imperative for the health providers to monitor the same with other quality indicators that have been on the look for quite some time (Secretary of State for Health, 2014). The documentation process will be beneficial to the health care in tracing the discharged patients for follow-ups medication to reduce the increasing number of readmission cases. This medium is important since a constant monitoring will ensure that a proper documentation through the electrical systems is done effectively.

The mission of the NDNQI is to assist the registered nurses in ensuring that the patients are safe and also they have quality treatment. Therefore, the data from the NDNQI contains improvement information that can be used by the stakeholders in the health sectors in the provision of a quality health care. The indicators like the structural ones that reflect on the staffing qualification can be used to ensure that the nursing working in the health care have the right education documents and can deliver correctly. This medium can be done by creating and ensuring that the human resource management charged with the purpose of providing right employees is taken. For the effectiveness of this, the organization can ensure that there is one body in the entire nation that is charged with the identification and employment of the nurses. Moreover, quality indicators like process are very essential in ensuring that the entire services are full of concern and respect for the patients. The population can check on the indicators to make sure that they attend the right health care where quality is administered for a good outcome.

Moreover, the data has also made the incoming stakeholders in the line of health care providers to come up with an improved quality system of the current. Ideally, the data has also been used by the current health providers or stakeholders to improve their quality services based on the standard that is running in the society. The data or the indicators can also be used by the population to identify the cost of medication that can be given. The health care with the modern and efficient care system will have a higher cost as compared with the others in the society. Therefore, the indicators can aid the people to determine the value and find out whether it is related to the performance exhibited. Therefore, the indicators and the data from the NDNQI are very much essential for the people and the stakeholders (Kelley & Hurst, 2013).

Conclusion

The quality indicators based on the database provided by the NDNQI are the effective ways of coming up with the proper quality mechanism. The various quality indicators show a particular area of concern that is perhaps diverse from the other but in the same system. The quality of health care provision has significantly increased in the current state through the implementation program of the quality assessment and the monitoring system to ensure quality is attained in the health considerations.
