What is union salt?
Union salt is an act that involves sending a member of a given union to the non-union workplace with an attempt to get some information about the company for the growth and development of the latter. The person will tend to get to the other organization unnoticed with a target of gathering some criteria to develop a particular workforce (Raudabaugh, 2008). The primary intention of the union is to show some level of contempt for the firms and workers who choose to operate on their own. The entire body is known as the labor union and the action through which some of them carry out their operation is known as salting process to achieve what they cannot achieve voluntarily. The process takes place when the union sends one of its members to the non-union firms to ask for employment just like any other person who might come to seek for a job opportunity. When one of the members send are rejected in the organization, the labor will then file conducive practices charges against the company claiming that there are some levels of discrimination.
Moreover, in case the salt is hired to the non-union company, he or she can then begin to cause trouble internally. He or she will file unfair charges and claims to the company with the intention of supporting the plans of the labor union. In the case of termination by the corporation, the person can quickly go back to the union to fill an illegal termination form based on the union payroll. Therefore, in the hands of the union members through the termination process of the employees, the company will be given two options which are either to pay for the legal cost or unionizes with the union and become the part. Several organizations have been lured towards the same line with the false allegation that is bound with chains that are unseen (Raudabaugh, 2008). The role of the union is to reach out for more pay for the workers through excellent services and salaries for members. However, this is estimated to increase the price of goods and services to curter for the high wages and services.
I think that the tactic can be looked into different dimensions. First, the labor union uses it to attract more members to register in their union so that they can support the welfare of workers in the United States of America. Therefore, on the side of employees, it will be a good move since many people will seek for the better payment. On the other hand, the companies register through their union will tend to increase the prices of goods and services to marge the rise in the wage bill of the enterprise. Therefore, the consumers will not be happy with the economy due to the issue. Secondly, the union tends to use the tactic in other diverse ways to fight the existing non-union companies in the market. I think the union should allow for freedom of the performance to exist in the nation to make sure that the rights of the companies are preserved since they are the economic drivers. Therefore, it is a wrong stuff for the union to create those traps for the company to frustrate them to fence their operation with the bid of getting more members (Raudabaugh, 2008).
